Daisy likes to colour in, and water paint, black line illustrations while we listen to audio books - so that is excuse enough for me to toss together some pages for her.

Gooney Bird Greene ~ art work
I've added this note to our Gooney Bird Greene Notebooking, lapnote pages .... but thought I'd pop it here as well.
e.reader has many of the Gooney Bird Greene titles on line, just click on the picture above to take you straight to the first Gooney Bird Greene Book.
Scroll down the page once you're there to read the whole book and select out pictures to enjoy printing and colouring.

Notebooking Pages: Florence Nightingale & the Crimean War
We've just completed our SOTW4 history week with the chapter on the Crimean War and since Daisy is mostly just participating as a tag-along with SOTW4 (going deeper with Bobs!) I'm making sure to include side trips for her, away from some of the topics we're reading about. So while Bobs looked at the issues surrounding the Crimean War, it was time for Daisy to have another, more indepth, look at Florence Nightingale.
Bobs completed his SOTW4, outline notebooking page with ease. Using WWE has certainly helped him to sift through the details and get the main points down in a brief sentence - it'll be interesting to see how he goes when we get to writing from the outline portions of SOTW, activity book 4.
The narration piece, shown in the photo below - along with Bobs outline, is Daisy's.
During Core K and our unit on nurses we enjoyed using water colours to paint this picture of Florence .
Above is Daisy's artistic efforts during Pre-K & Core K. She'll be happy to have another 'go' at that picture. And since we're carrying on a Victorian theme - Florence Nightingale's clothing is of interest to Daisy.
We've tossed together some Florence Nightingale Notebooking Pages (which includes some generic Crimean War notebooking pages also. Bobs is not fussed on using the style of pages
Daisy likes, photo below, ☺ so we've included some art work that Bobs preferred too.)
Florence Nightingale Notebooking Pages (includes lapfolds) Links repaired 05/15. Now goes to dropbox - you don't have to sign up to download the file, just close that box and then hold down the Ctrl key and click Download.

Daisy completed her Florence Nightingale Cut-n-Craft notebooking page, above, using the Florence Nightingale paper doll. Our notebooking page can be found here, over at dropbox.
While we read aloud The Drummer Boy's Battle ~ Florence Nightingale, by Dave & Neta Jackson (*note: pre-read before giving to sensitive children!!), Daisys enjoying colouring in, picture below, a hidden picture that I stashed away in our archives folder a few year back. Sorry, the original link I had for this picture no longer works..... you can send me a note at sldownunder dot g at gmail dot com if you'd like the page.
I did find the picture without the picture clues linked on one of Jimmie's lens ... (I'll try to find her lens again & place that link here... I may not be able to, look at all her lens ☺.)Found it! Jimmie helped by placing the squidoo link it's on, in her March Notebooking Round up: Go to this squidoo post and scroll down to The Biography of Florence Nightingale portion and it's #4
For those looking for a Florence Nightingale notebooking page, for youngers, The Notebook Fairy has two.
Popping this here for others: We found this pdf in our travels that may suit your children.

Children Around the World Colour in Pages

Even if your children don't like to colour in, the art work off the geography colour sheets from Hugo L'escargot's site would make for great cut-n-craft embellishments for lapnote, lapbook, or notebooking pages.
We don't mind that the wording is predominantly in French and we're using some of the pages that are available as 'title' page dividers in the geography portion of Bobs and Daisy's history folders.

Betsy Ross Notebooking Pages
I tossed together some rather basic notebooking pages for Betsy Ross that we ended up not using since Daisy decided she'd rather just read the book, Betsy Ross: Designer of Our Flag , give an oral narration and move right along.
Someone else may find a use for these pages though, so we've placed them over at hslaunch: Betsy Ross Notebooking, Craft, and Colour in Pages

The Witch of Blackbird Pond - Notebooking Pages
We all enjoyed this Sonlight scheduled read aloud, though I have to say Dn and I saved our voices and enjoyed it via the audio book with the children.
On our customised, Story of the World 3 & Sonlight Core 3, schedule you'll find The Witch of Blackbird Pond slotted in on page 1c, SOTW3 chapter: 15.
(We've edited our schedule a few times since we placed that one up on hslaunch, I may have to upload the schedule we are using now).
We appreciated the character lessons and history detailed in The Witch of Blackbird Pond and so I went ahead and created a few (very plain) pages for Daisy to use to go with this book, namely: a copywork page and a colour in page.

Poetry Copywork
Since me and mine are keen poetry 'appreciators' I thought I'd create this random post.
We like to have poetry copywork sheets, which include optional colour in themes for Daisy, to go with some of the recitation pieces we are working on.
Seems a waste to create these pages just for us and then leave them languishing in our files so I thought I'd share some of our past efforts that others may like to use too.
Poems include pages for:
The Caterpillar by Christina G. Rossetti
A Wise Old Owl by Edwards H. Richards
The Little Plant by Kate L. Brown
God is Like This by Rowena Bennet
I've detailed how we use them, should that interest anyone too, on the first page of the following pdf .

Bible Colour in Pages.
Really nice (extra) colour in pages can sometimes be a stretch to find.
Pages that have more realistic pictures but are not so heavily detailed that Daisy gets dispondent with ALL the tiny lines - and pages that are different than the ones she's coloured in before.
I've been eyeing these for a little while: The student pages for Telling God's Story , they sure do have some wonderful art work for colouring in.
We are not using the course that goes with these page, we have our own preferred approach to teaching bible .
We just want to use the colour in sheets in the pdf (and perhaps a few of the craft/game ideas), those will suit us just fine.
Samples of the art work can be viewed here.
And, a great bonus for internationals wanting to purchase their downloads: Peace Hill Press now have payment available via paypal. So convenient.

Free Notepages - Prominent Figures in History
I keep meaning to re-share this link:
Famous People Notebooking Pages from Activity Village.
It just saves a ton of time :-) to have pages "ready made" and easy to access on line when doing written dictation, written narration or copywork during SOTW, and Daisy is happy with alternate options to colour in during history read aloud time.Actually... Jim Weiss has been doing all the SOTW reading for us so far, (smile) he's about to read us chapter 4.

Free Notebooking Pages for Story of the World Vol.3
Oliver Cromwell & Pre- French Revolution, or France ~ 1700's
We've just posted up some more free notebooking pages over at HSlaunch.
One of our children will use the pages as is; just purely for notebooking.
The other child will colour in to their hearts delight, on the pages detailing the bigger pictures.
With the Oliver Cromwell pages I've placed in various line size options and a title page .... for those that like to colour in (smile).
Notebooking & Colour in Pages for Oliver Cromwell 1600's
Only 2 options here ... I just wasn't feeling that inspired to create anything more than these few pages ... it's too close to christmas (smile).

London Colour in Pages
The London colour in pages, listed here , are a good extra while we read Mr. Pipes and the British Hymn Makers.
And, while we are on colouring pages .. I've now added a label, in the side bar, onto our blog (at someone's request smile) which links up posts with some of the colour in pages we've mentioned through out our blog.

Florence Nightingale Notebook Page (Art Page)
I'll add another of our SOTW4 extras over here at Hslaunch.
Our Florence Nightingale Notebooking Page (link above) is going to be used as an art & history lesson, using coloured pencils, as a hands on session with Story of the World Vol.4 and as a Sonlight Core 4 extra.
We've already introduced the children to Florence Nightingale in Core K, during our nurse's module, which means that Daisy has already enjoyed
the Florence Nightingale paper doll
and water colour painted the
Florence Nightingale colour in page ,
so it will be time for something a little different ... when we get to SOTW4 and SL Core 4.

Abraham Lincoln Notebooking Page (Art Page)

It will be a while before we use our Abraham Lincoln Notebooking / Art Page, but I do so like to plan ahead, and I've place it here over at hslaunch should others wish to have a try at this indian ink art and history lesson ...... before we get to it as a SOTW4 and Sonlight Core 4 extra.
I don't really feel the need to make any more Abraham lincoln notebooking pages as sites like this one have provided some free notebooking pages, & colour in sheets we can us.

Story of The World Vol.3 Notebooking Pages
Daisy likes to craft and I like to have a reminder of a least some of the year's history sessions, so notebook pages like these are a good compromise for us both.
We've set these with a Story of the World 3 Early Modern Times header and have included lapnotes, some Story of the World 3 notebook pages for writing and drawing, & Cut-n-Craft and art pages.
Some of these pages could be used for SOTW 3 in Sonlight Core 6, yet many have been created with a younger child in mind ....... ours (smile)
I've included some pre-set pages and topics and left other notebook pages for general use.
Captain Cook
Convict Ships to Australia
Coal Mines (& children in the coal mines)
New Zealand Wars & Hone Heke cuts down the British flagpole
Californian Goldrush -49er's
Trail of Tears
Thomas Jefferson
George Washington
Marie Antionette
Don't forget to check out the freebie notebooking and lapnote components Homeschool in the Woods have to 'go-along' with this era.
The hslaunch link later in this post for our Cut-n-Craft, lapnote and notebooking pages are a few examples of what we plan to do for some of our history narration times with Story of the World Vol.3.
The pre-set topics are:
PilgrimsCaptain Cook
Convict Ships to Australia
Coal Mines (& children in the coal mines)
New Zealand Wars & Hone Heke cuts down the British flagpole
Californian Goldrush -49er's
Trail of Tears
Thomas Jefferson
George Washington
Marie Antionette
Our Story of the World Vol.3 notebooking pages can be found over at HSlaunch.

Notebooking Pages New Zealand History 1700 & 1800's
Notebooking Pages New Zealand History 1700 & 1800's
We've created these notebooking pages to go with our New Zealand History studies, while we read through Story of the World Vol.3.
I guess they are more narration and dictation pages ... our way.
~
I've switched the header to History of New Zealand so that anyone else interested could use these pages instead of just crafting them as a Story of the World Vol 3 notebooking pages set.
~
Included are notebooking pages or lapnote pages for:
Captain Cook's discovery of New Zealand (Here is another extra too ... a Captain Cook Colour in page)
The Maori Wars
The price of a musket in the 1800's (complete with referencing link)
&, An art page - Complete the drawing of Hone Heke cutting down the British flagpole.
I'm not sure how much of look in New Zealand History gets in the earlier Sonlight Cores since we elected to go with our own chouce of history spine, Story of the World.
NZ history does come up in Core 6 & Core 7 since some of the history text for those two cores are Story of the World.
Again, our New Zealand History / Story of the World 3 notebook pages & art and craft pages can be found over at HSlaunch

Bible Copywork & Memorisation
We like to learn bible verses set to music, where we can, and to that end use some of the songs on The Harrow C/D's which Sonlight sells and schedules out in their IG's .
The words of each verse are so much easier for our family to memorise once we've completed a copywork sheet to go with it, I like to craft one too while the children are completing theirs.
We normally use Startwrite to create a lot of our copywork sheets since it models the exact handwriting style the children are learning to write in, but occasionally I like to throw together other pages in microsoft publisher - just because.
This weeks scripture is Proverbs 1:7 and you can find the pages (below) over at HSlaunch.
For memorisation with our next Core 3/4, and SOTW3 & SOTW4, we are choosing to use some of the songs out of The Harrows CD's that are used alongside bible in Sonlight's Cores 3 and 4.
I'm not too fussed on the guides in the bible selection SL provides for those two Cores, so we'll be using something else.
With SOTW3 we'll be using a selection out of the books and C.D's shown in the picture below. We thought it would be a nice change to have a more focused introduction to hymnists and their pieces this next year, or 2, so that is where we have scheduled our plans to head - taking a leisurely amble through Stories of the Great Hymns while listening to the music C.D's when it suits (and the clincher for us was we already had these things tucked away on the shelves to use ...... sometime).
With The Building on the Rock series, which I've pencilled into the first part of our SOTW3 schedule, we will be using the shorter stories only and then reading the relevant bible scriptures they list to go with each story - some of the references are a perfect opportunity for smaller fingers to navigate flipping backwards and forwards through the bible to more than one set of scriptures.
The Mr. Pipes series does not give corresponding bible readings so we'll use some of Sonlight's bible reading schedule during that time - it'll work well for us.
With SOTW4, still fine tuning and thinking about bible time choices for that (smile)

Dragons Kick Start our Week
Bobbi and Daisy were listening, yet again, to The Hobbit and enjoying the part of Smaug and since I was feeling a little lack lustre about being back-to-learning in the midst of Winter we decided to take a detour and declared it Dragons Week...
The Reluctant Dragon got listened to also - Dad and the children are Wind in the Willows fans .... 'nough said :) Some interesting conversations happened with Bobbi while we listened to Kenneth Grahame's work.
I like this fun how- to- draw page which was a weekly freebie and it seems to be a perfect go along for T.R.D.
Daisy re-hooked back into My Father's Dragon as a reader so we threw some language arts pages together for her, a la WWE style - and yes, it includes some of the necessary colour in pages she likes.
We've included some light grammar and a little spelling work, copywork style, in those LA pages.
** Pop over to HSlaunch if you'd like to see our My Father's Dragon Language Arts pages. (We've now fixed the typo's in the copywork).
Here is a cute free audio book of My Father's Dragon we have this audio version and it's been enjoyed extensively since Sonlight introduced us to Elmer and his Dragon in Core K.
For those that like lapbooks, don't forget Amy's My Fathers Dragon lapbook it looks like a fun activity!
For art we pulled out the clay and crafted some Dragon busts. We all enjoyed that. Pictures now added, and we're just got the painting of them to enjoy.

Save to a file on your computer before opening.
I wanted to put together one more set of language arts pages, pages for Daisy to use, to complete copywork and narration pieces on. I just couldn't hit on a book to 'do'.
Our niece Jaz suggested Gooney Bird Greene. Thanks Jaz, that was an excellent idea .
There is so much that can be done with that book - I didn't want to do a unit study since our previous go through G.B.G we did these things (scroll down until you find the book title) so this time our focus is just language arts as well as adding in art and colour-in pages, so that's all we've made. I've added options for others that want to do more.
Since the drawings in G.B.G are copywrite, we used a combination of the detail in the book along with the faces and personalitites of Daisy and her cousin's 'Z' and 'gcpb' to sketch our own Gooney Bird, pictured above - artistic licence (snort n laugh) born out of necessity. (Hands and shoes are my pet dislikes to sketch - and it shows!!!! But Daisy is happy with the end results so that is all that matters).
(& thanks for asking ☺ before using our G.B.G clip art for your own projects.)
Our Gooney Bird Greene notebooking pages, lapnotes, et al, are now stored here.
(be sure to check out the update at the end of this post too).
Update - September 2011 Holly, author of Three Sided Wheel, has created these Goonie Bird Greene Notebooking Pages that you'll want to have a look at too. Nice job Holly!
