& Story of the World 4 Lapnotes

These next set of pages are generic SOTW4 notebooking pages, in so much that they can be used for any SOTW4 chapter and topic.

I'm not sure just where our children's writing finesse is going to be when we get to doing written narrations with SOTW4 & Sonlight Core 4, so I decided to toss a few options for 'line size' in there now.

We haven't added any extra cut-n-craft or art options - they are just basic lapnote and notebooking pages.

The crafting queue for SOTW4 is in pause mode for now, yet knowing us, I'm sure I'll be making other pages to go along with SOTW4 and as Sonlight Core 4 extras when we get closer to using those curricula (smile), but this is it for the time being.

I wanted to put together one more set of language arts pages, pages for Daisy to use, to complete copywork and narration pieces on. I just couldn't hit on a book to 'do'.
Our niece Jaz suggested Gooney Bird Greene. Thanks Jaz, that was an excellent idea .

There is so much that can be done with that book - I didn't want to do a unit study since our previous go through G.B.G we did these things (scroll down until you find the book title) so this time our focus is just language arts as well as adding in art and colour-in pages, so that's all we've made. I've added options for others that want to do more.

Since the drawings in G.B.G are copywrite, we used a combination of the detail in the book along with the faces and personalitites of Daisy and her cousin's 'Z' and 'gcpb' to sketch our own Gooney Bird, pictured above - artistic licence (snort n laugh) born out of necessity. (Hands and shoes are my pet dislikes to sketch - and it shows!!!! But Daisy is happy with the end results so that is all that matters).

This is our week , or so, for enjoying a small study on this continent - I thought we'd better pause 'here' for a small look around since my parents immigrated from there :-)

Now is a perfect time for us to start reading the pages we have of Janette Casey’s book & history timeline figures/colour-in C/D….

I'm sure Janette's narrative will tie in beautifully with SOTW 2 - Chapt 10.1

We've enjoyed Our Sunburnt Country ~ Arthur Baillie, as an easier, quicker, narrative history of Australia, since I'm only wanting an overview of Australian history for Daisy - we'll go into social injustices later.

• Waltzing Matilda by Banjo Paterson. Freya Blackwood sing-along by John Williamson (thanks Aunty S !!) This folk song along with the book is a slightly more sobering study to 'Queensland history'. Great tool to use!
  

The same Aunty purchased us an audio set of Mary Gibs Snugglepot and Cuddlepie which the children have enjoyed *often* and have been a wonderful 'pre-learning' tool for us to go off hunting to find just what each of the characters in the stories actually are. ** Some stories would be too much for a sensitive younger child.
And to that end .... today during our walk/nature jaunt we collected some gumnut 'hats' to make clay Cuddlepie faces tomorrow for geography art.
The scanned picture below makes a perfect print out to add chalk pastels colour to.
This blog has some lovely nature sketches relevant to "Banksia Men" & the Gum-nut babies.
Here are 2 nature study type colour in go-alongs which we ended up watercolor painting.
I know Bobbi will enjoy crafting the kangaroo, &, koala-go-round 'for Daisy' which is sourced from here )

And I think we'll stop there with Australia, until next time :-)

The Chronicles of Narnia Unit Study

We've be slowly getting this 'idea' streamlined for our Narnia study at the end of Core 2, I'm not actually sure we are going to use it - there's so much else we want to do more.

You'll all know, eventually, whether we decided to immerse ourselves into Narnia as a study and not just for listening/reading enjoyment.

I'm sure the end result would/will be different than this rough type up which we're sharing in advance incase our musings are of interest to others.

Ancient Egypt Lapbooks

Bobbi thinks it's very interesting (!) and Daisy enjoys the blackline pictures scattered through out and the 'dramatised' parts of the books ...

Especially the 'Eureka, Eureka' part :-)

(Yes, we are still using that. It has been an excellent purchase for our earlier years of sicence pages.)
Daisy likes to circle and colour portion of each worksheet, mummy just shrugs her shoulders and hands the pages as Daisy asks for them.

Revisiting Bees

Daisy decided on our weeks break that she would really like to revisit bees ~ now that she's older (-:

We've had a lovely relaxed week reviewing and 're-learning' about these amazing creatures. Queen Bee, Worker Bee, Drone Bee

We went through our bees lapbook *again* and read The Magic School Bus Inside the Bee Hive .

This site is of interest to Bobbi, and if I was going to create a lap~note page for bees & The Magic School bus book (I'm not) that site has some very interesting clip art to use ....

We also found these links with a quick search, Bee Squidoo Lens and a very interesting nature site from this lapbooking blog, and once at Nature Detectives scroll down for bees.
Be sure to have a good browse around Erna’s blog, she’s detailed some lovely lapbooks and components....

And sorting around through our files I found a few interesting colour in pages and 2 lap~note type sheets that others may enjoy seeing too.

And, Daisy is going to try her hand (with marmee) during Friday craft time to make this adorable bees file folder as a gift for a small friends' birthday. I can see us 'customising' it a little.
