More About Us

Welcome to my spot on the internet where I get to share a portion of the Homeschooling part of our family's life.
And sorry for those reading our blog that are skilled word smiths ...you may just have to grin and bear it with some of the typos in our posts, they are left there on purpose as I didn't pick them up on the initial edit-before-posting and since leaving a few, previously, undiscovered typos just stay there is good for my perfectionist type tendencies (smile).

My husband of 29 years, Dn, and I are blessed with 2 children, Jay (16 ) and Daisy (14): who quite enjoy having internet aliases - and from time to time let me prattle on here, at length, about their individual homeschooled successes, or struggles.

We get to learn so much from others hard earned wisdom and enjoy the generosity they show in sharing their hours of work with us.   It pays sometimes to be 'Last in Line' and be blessed with all the wonderful extras others have already created, or found, to bring different areas of home educating topics to life.
Occasionally we get the opportunity to give back a little by sharing some of the pages we create for our home educating use.

It is to be noted that we also seem to be taking the last in line  'scenic-route' while Homeschooling Jay and Daisy in New Zealand.
Interesting rabbit trails just seem to abound along the scenic route, so I find creating self imposed schedules of 'intended topics with books' seems to help us (me) get back on topic a little easier.

We're Eclectic *hybrid* Charlotte Mason-er's who employ the occasional Classical slant while using a Literature Rich based education, Lapnotes, Notebooking, and,  anything else that seems to 'fit'.

Our classical slant has been customised and blended together, to suit us, from ideas that have resonated with us out of the Bluedorn's book, Teaching the Trivium, in the early years,  and Susan Wise Bauer's book, The Well Trained Mind, in the upper-teen to highschool years.

Updated 2014:
We are retro-Sonlight users, meaning we use just the book notes from the IGs published prior to 2012.
The new IG's (2012 onwards) just do not suit us: it's too frustrating for me to  try to use the upgraded SL schedules with all the book notes piecemealed together and so for the highschool years I am creating our own schedules, using whatever book notes or guides will work better (best?) for Jay.
Daisy is still using large amounts of literature that Sonlight uses along with their old book notes, which I schedule into the history schedule we've set up for Jay.
Post 2012, we started using many of Biblioplan's suggestions - companion text, mapping, and books - along with referring to other literature based history curric providers = many wonderful books

Curriculum tweaking is one of my favourite hobbies and I'll use anything that can be adjusted to meet our learning needs,  regardless of what 'faith' the author/company may, or may not, be.
(We are, quite happily, non-denominational Christians  )

And I just have to repeat the disclaimer I have as my byline on a few other spots on the internet:
